Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions act - since at least four millennia, i.e. since Sesostri I's or Abraham's time - as a 'cosmic' metronome, a world clock which strikes the 'hours' of the human history: a 'cosmic' hour every 20 years (precisely every 19.86 years).

Because of the fact that the appearance of this phenomenon can be in different ways (mainly two ways), Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions have received a lot of religious worships, astrological/astronomical and philosophical interpretations and have also been the source of many allegorical myths and images (like phoenix and monokeros or unicorn) and even of many pieces of literature (for instance Dante, Petrarca, ..) !!

Ieri i 720 ANNI dalla NASCITA DEL PETRARCA - Ricordiamone anche la PETROSITA' del Rvf 23

Il 2024 è un anno molto importante per gli studiosi di italianistica: ricorrono infatti sia i 650 anni dalla morte del Petrarca (1304-1374) che i 720 anni dalla nascita, avvenuta ad Arezzo il 20 luglio 1304.

Passati da poco i trent'anni e proprio quando i due pianeti Giove e Saturno, che avevano iniziato ad ispirargli la 'donna angelicata' Laura, erano in dis-giunzione (180°) e quindi praticamente invisibili (primi di aprile del 1335 e del 1336), Petrarca sentì il bisogno di curare e pubblicare una sua prima raccolta di versi e raccontare poeticamente la sua storia artistica fino ad allora con la cosiddetta "canzone delle metamorfosi", la Rerum vulgarium fragmentum n. 23, quella che inizia con i versi

"Nel dolce tempo della prima etade,/ che nascer vide et anchor quasi in herba/ la fera voglia che per mio mal crebbe, perché cantando il duol si disacerba,/ canterò com'io vissi in libertade, mentre Amor nel mio albergo a sdegno s'ebbe."

Qui lui sta parlando dell'arrivo ad inizio del 1325 (quando aveva ancora 20 anni) della congiunzione G-S che si sarebbe rivelata singola con culmine al 1° giugno di quell'anno.

Di come le congiunzioni G-S del 1345 e 1365 spieghino e permettano di datare tutto il gruppo dei cosiddetti sonetti fenicei (Rvf 185, 321, 323) ho già scritto anche in questo blog e quindi non starò qui a ripeterlo (basta fare un search con q=Petrarca). 

Petrarch's 1365 STRANGE PHOENIX was 'actually' a UNICORN (i.e. a single J-S conjunction)

I saw a strange phoenix, both its wings

clothed in crimson, and its head with gold,
